Can infusing interspecies care into evolving human cultures support more respectful ways of coexisting with the planet’s ecosystems?

Soft body, no sharp edges, no tension
You move by gentle gliding
Your bones dissolve
Your skin turns into a soft membrane

Your entire body is a muscle
that slides over the sea grass

You are Elysia crispata

You could be a leaf
Along your sides, folds open and close
They move with the current
help you take in more sunlight

You sense the world as gradients
Brightness, softness, temperature
You cannot see far
but you can feel everything

(…)

A small 2cm body
floating in warm tidal waters
How effortless it is
to spin
to settle
to roll again
with the pulse of life

Inside you
chloroplasts turn light
into energy
Feel the warmth of sunlight
becoming food
under your skin

(…)

You are Elysia crispata

Your body carries two stories,
of an animal
and a plant

Remembering the taste of algae
sometimes sunlight
becomes just enough
